Ledfeather stats

Just yesterday finished that Ledfeather novel I’ve been writing all the long way since January, and am two weeks late with already, or, ‘late,’ anyway, maybe even with double quotes there, and anyway, yeah, I love the hell out of it, can’t imagine I was even able to trap the thing on paper, but, too, like with The Bird is Gone, it kind of skewered my brain, but none of that’s even what I mean to be saying here.

What I mean to be saying is that I thought I’d do a word-count on it, see how it stacked against the rest of everything I wrote, and for the first time ever I saw that one stat that I guess has always been there: total editing time. And, I don’t really have the math skills necessary to translate minutes to days, but, anyway, 16,923 minutes. Are there even that many since January?

Anyway, yesterday was cool first because of hitting that final period of Ledfeather, and also because I watched Nightbreed on DVD and 300 on celluloid, and it was hot enough to play hours and hours of winding-down-from-a-novel basketball that my knee’s still not even close to ready for, but, too, I also got to spend about eight hours under the hood of Demon Theory again, in preparation for the trade paperback, which is going to be so clean, so perfect.

Too, and this isn’t really related, but wherever I put it, it’s not going to be related to anything, and might only be of interest to people who write fiction for a non-living, but Samsung makes this monitor, the SyncMaster. I have the 19-inch version, I think. What’s super-excellent about it, though, is that it rotates. Like, instead of being a widescreen, you can twist it up into a ‘tallscreen.’ And that, as near as I can tell, especially when coupled with a slick ergo keyboard and one of those Aeron chairs, is about as good as it gets for writing fiction. Well, I mean, taking into account a pair of speakers that’ll just blow the hair straight back from your skull. Which, when you’re a longhair like me, can be kind of dangerous to other people in the room, yeah. But that screen, man: to see the whole page at once, instead of just this little horizontal window onto your story. It’s beautiful, it’s different, it’s necessary, it’s perfect. Couldn’t recommend it more.
